The Developer's Troubled Shooter Marathon Is Making a Comeback
The upcoming sci-fi extraction shooter, the studio's highly-anticipated game, has resurfaced with the announcement of a closed technical test scheduled to begin in October.
A Rocky Development Journey
First announced during the 2023 gaming showcase, Marathon has undergone a tumultuous development cycle. In October 2024, the developer stated plans were to start Alpha tests during the coming year. This was followed by quiet months, until the project was re-revealed in spring with a Sept. 23 launch date. However, following initial testing resulted in mixed reactions, Bungie revealed during summer that it was delaying Marathon indefinitely.
Avoiding Past Mistakes

Now, it seems the game's development is finally getting back on track, as they just disclosed that it has run "several closed playtests to gather feedback on the game" since this past summer. The developer is opening the doors a bit wider, allowing additional participants to get an early look of the experience via an forthcoming "closed technical test."
