Springfield's Favorite Family Makes Its Debut in Psyonix's Hit Game: But It's Not the Vehicle You're Dreaming Of

We already knew that the iconic animated series was teaming up with Fortnite, but that's not the only place where enthusiasts can experience the world of Springfield. The beloved show is coming over to Rocket League, bringing along an vehicle customization option that will also be compatible in Fortnite. That said, if gamers will actually want to use it is a different matter, as there's only one Simpsons car the community is eager to drive, and this isn't it.

What Fans Really Want

Although most gamers would undoubtedly love to compete behind the wheel of The Homer—the notoriously impractical car the patriarch designed himself in the 1991 episode "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"—that's not what players are receiving. Not even getting the Canyonero, the enormous vehicle showcased in season 10. Rather, players are getting the Simpsons' everyday well-worn four-door, which has been in the family since 1989. Even though this particular car has seen better days, it remains an iconic element of the show. And for players who analyze Rocket League car hitboxes, the trusty sedan uses the same hitbox as the Dominus body type.

More Than Just a Car

But that's not the only cosmetic from the series arriving in the game. The event will additionally feature a series of challenges to earn additional goodies, all of which are inspired by the show. According to a press release, the challenges will require participants to "get as many centers and clears as there are The Simpsons years on air, gather boost canisters as if your navigation is set to The Simpsons’ house, and travel a specific distance worthy of picking up the perfect donuts!"

Although the full lineup of challenge rewards isn't yet revealed, here is what's been announced so far:

  • Blinky antenna topper
  • Homer's Hedges player banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

If the key art is a reliable guide, it seems players will also receive wheels featuring a television showing the show's title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and rocket boosts inspired by smoldering rubber and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Launch Dates and Crossover Details

The Rocket League collaboration coincides with the extensive Simpsons invasion of Fortnite's island, which includes a completely new map of the fictional town, as well as a month-long seasonal progression system. This special Rocket League and Simpsons celebration launches on Saturday, Nov. 1 and ends on Nov. 17.
