19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the last five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
